The Republican Coalition Makes No Sense
Every time I think about the Republican coalition I am reminded of that old Sesame Street jingle,
“One of these things is not like the other.”
A coalition made up of “Country Clubbers”, “Liberal Country Clubbers” and “Libertarians” can be made to work quite easily.
A coalition made up of the “I wish it was still 1955 Cultural Conservatives” “Neo-Conservative American Empire Fascists ” -and the”I want America to be Like Iran, Only Christian” crowd might work too.
Try to put the two together for long and anytime there is real crises BOOM you have a mixture more unstable than vinegar and baking soda.
If Brand R wants to ever succeed again one group is going to have to go — which one is up to the party but I’d suggest the later. Maybe its my bias but I am sensing that after 8 years of Coalition #2 being in charge has pretty well soured the electorate on the”Eternal War, Security State, Only the Rich Matter, Enforced Christianity ” platform .
On the other hand the older, Limited Government, Low Taxes, Pro Responsible Business, Persona l Responsibility and Freedom ideas still have play left in them. But thats up to the party leaders.
For the time being I suspect the folks in this great country will try a little Vitamin D on for size.
I just hope it works better. But only time will tell.
