A Heartbreaking Piece on Terrified Americans, Injustice and the Police State
From Joe Bageant’s Deer Hunting with Jesus (via Reddit)
Simply put
Most Americans are afraid to feel outrage.
I agree with Joe on pretty most all particulars. I do think there are another three good solid reasons people are unable or unwilling to act.
#1 Reason:
Our pretense of a civilization is fragile and we are an middle aged people, median age of 36 who are not accustomed to hardships like going without food, heat or worse.
.
Joe covers some of the causes of the fear beautifully in his article.
There are some other things we are afraid of. The big one is that we are afraid that if we buck the apple cart, all the unresolved issues of race, religion and class will spill out into the streets. Some of those 300 million guns we have stashed will get used. Folks there are places in the great nation that will burn.
Worse in the gawdawful unlikely event we get a revolution as some of the idiots out there seem to want. Well if you win, you still lose.
I’ll spare you the gory details as this isn’t a conspiracy blog but suffice it to say, the living will envy the dead. America dies and while she may be an Eagle but she’s no Phoenix. We don’t rise again in any form I’d call my beloved country.
#2 Reason
We still have feckless hope.We believe that that younger generations or the courts or somebody will fix the mess. We count on Barrack Obama or just somebody, anybody to come along and save us from ourselves.Even while our infrastructure is crumbling and falling apart around our ears we all have hope that its not yet beyond fixing. So we wait for someone to save us rather than take responsibility.
#3
We lack a good plan, heck any plan. Between our divisions, trivial and otherwise, our laziness, ignorance and all around pigheadedness no one has yet put forward a plan to actually solve any of the problems. We no longer have the organizational acumen we used to have. The supply of that rarefied stuff, the Arete that helped put a man on the moon and made our industry #1 seems to have all dried up.
Until we have a plan and the will to apply we can’t succeed.
Now I have a higher confidence in the folks out there than this post might suggest. I know that with a little bump in the right direction and a solid slate of ideas folks can bring matters to right.
Also I do intend to suggest a few plans here and elsewhere. So stay tuned
Remember the fight starts with you.
