Got an Hour? The Coming Middle Class Collapse

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

The Coming Collapse of the Middle Class
This is an hour long lecture from the California educational system, found on YouTube
Dr. Warren’s Book “the Two Income Trap” trap is well worth the read but if you don’t have time to read it you will find the lecture below to be very worthwhile. Just leave it […]

Neil Gaiman on Defending Unpopular Speech

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Seen originally on Digg.
Neil Gaiman sums up why we must defend unpopular speech.

If you don’t stand up for the stuff you don’t like, when they come for the stuff you do like, you’ve already lost.

The whole essay is on his blog so go… read …..
Let also add if you like fantasy, read […]

What is it with Governments and Dystopias ?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

What is it with Governments and Dystopias. Most sane people take these as cautionary tales and things to be avoided.
Governments on the other hand seem to take the worst of the worst, 1984, Brave New World and the like as a “master plan” or a “good idea”
Given a few more years of Republican misrule […]

John Norman on Carrying Weapons

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

John Norman is infamous for the schlock S&M planetary romance /erotica Gor series. The first book Tarnsmen of Gor is pretty decent but the series grows increasingly perverse and deviant thereafter so approach with caution.
That being said I’ve always liked this quote on bearing arms. It truly is Wisdom from Strange Sources
“Where weapons may not […]

Canadian Human Rights Commission Drops Complaint VS Mark Steyn and MaCLeans

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

I saw it originally on Little Green Footballs though the original article was on Ezra Levant’s Blog.
My only comment is Good. The so called Human Rights Commission is a speech stifling, left wing kangaroo court from all I can tell.
It shames me to see that the left wing blogs have not […]

A Great Overlooked Book on the Dangers of Meth

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Its in the Young Adult section so you might not have seen it.
Crank. by Ellen Hopkins.
This story is gut wrenching, lyrical and so true.
The lead character, Kristina reminds me so much of some of my younger acquaintances its painful to read.
I highly recommend this book for teens or adults.

Ben Wattenberg has a Blog!

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

A seldom updated one bit still, its nice to see some of the old school media people adapt and use blogs and the internet.
On a political note I disagree with Mr. Wattenberg on a lot of issues, especially ones related to demography and his neo-con politics but I found his blog to be a […]

Demographic Winter

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I am not entirely sure what to make of the recent, somewhat creepy fascination with other people’s fertility in the media. Writers like Phillip Longman, Ben Wattenberg, Mark Steyn and others have have written innumerable “doomsday is coming” articles and books on the recent global decline in birthrates.
Now they have added a movie, […]

Microchips Everywhere? Thanks But No.

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

I am glad to see that Yahoo is paying attention to the RFID story. . Right now there isn’t a grave problem with the technology being abused but as Prosper’s Law of Technology Introduction states it will be, sooner than later.
For now though we can just be vigilant . When stuff starts to be […]

Freakonomics “On Experts and Fear”

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Freakonomics is a great book and if you haven’t read, grab a copy. It is on my short list of “books that really help you think” and its a must read.
Here is there take on politically motivated fear
An ‘expert’ doesn’t so much argue the various sides of an issue as plant his flag
firmly […]
